Design and features
I have a dedicated home theater with seven-channel surround sound, comfy couches, and seven more TVs in almost every room. Even my garage has a TV to make watching car repair tutorials easier and protect my phone from my grease-covered digits. Still, I wanted to add video-viewing bliss to other rooms, homes, and locations, so I was enthusiastic about Dangbei’s N1 Mini projector.
It arrived in a well-padded box.
There are no worries about bumps and bruises here!
Dangbei packages a power cord, manual, and remote control with AAA batteries for the ride.
After powering up the first time, the remote paired with the projector via Bluetooth. The connection was effortless. The buttons have a pleasant tactile click, and the response was excellent. There was no lag using the on-screen keyboard and menus.
Two AAA batteries feed the remote. The cover pops off easily without tools for easy replacement.
The projector is smaller than a Scooby-Doo lunchbox. Its main body is perched atop a swivel, and it pivots smoothly without wobble or slippage.
Under the prominent lens resides a small camera used for automatic focus and keystone correction. It works very well, correcting by evaluating a circular pattern for focus and a grid for keystone. The process takes only a few seconds and can be disabled in the setup menu. For fine-tuning, there are focus buttons on the remote.
The back of the projector houses a large grid for cooling.
There’s a speaker back there, too.
The power button, single HDMI, USB, and audio connectors are near the top.
I appreciate that there is no need for a wall-wart transformer power supply. The IEC-C7 power cord plugs into the back of the swivel base.
If placing the N1 on a flat surface is not a good option for you, the base has a PTZ bracket socket.
I plugged the N1 in, pressed the power button, went through the remote pairing process, and logged into my Netflix account in minutes. Yep—Netflix runs natively on this little beastie! Yay!
On the downside, the app for loading streaming services has limited options. Hulu, Disney, Plex, and Amazon Prime loaded perfectly, but Max and several others I use were missing. Using a Roku, Amazon Fire, or Apple TV is not a big deal, so I’m not overly concerned.
I was immediately surprised at the vividness of the colors. A 1080P projector like this would have been a beaucoup bunch of bucks a few years ago. At $230, it’s an excellent value! I spent a while perusing a few titles and had a boatload, car wreck, shoot-em’-up, and lightsaber duel of fun. It’s worth noting that at 200 lumens, the N2 Mini will need a darkened environment.
Keystone correction is limited to about ±20°. Outside that range, the projector will let you know. If you need to make changes, the setup menus make it easy with four-corner adjustments.
There are many configuration options in the menus.
The audio is, well… decent. It won’t give the mighty thump I crave, but it’s suitable for casual watching and presentations. Dangbei was wise to include Bluetooth audio. Connecting the N2 Mini to full-sound speakers turned this little dynamo into a super-compact home theater. Minimalists, are you listening :-)! I observed no lag or sync issues.
Overall, using the Dangbei N1 Mini is a fun experience. It’s a solid performer for light-controlled rooms with
Final thoughts
With its vivid colors, bright image, and budget-friendly price tag, Dangbei’s N1 Mini Projector is an excellent value. It’s outstanding for adding big-screen fun in light-controlled places like basements, backyard drive-in theaters, or even bedroom ceilings. My wife and I enjoyed watching YouTube aquarium walkthroughs, especially with audio connected to Bluetooth speakers. Great job, and thank you, Dangbei!
